Telecom Open Compute
Telecom open compute is the catch-all term for technologies that promise to bring the benefits of the Open Compute Project (OCP), founded by Facebook, to the telco world. The OCP has created the OCP Telco working group to focus on hyperscale and data center technologies for telecom companies. A major hardware initiative in telecom OCP is called CG-OpenRack- 19. Artesyn’s CG-OpenRack-19 Hyperscale Sled offers acceleration for deep learning, video & graphics-intensive applications using NVIDIA GPUs. Operators and technology companies are also collaborating with Facebook in the Telecom Infra Project (TIP).
The extensive use of virtualized environments by data centers and cloud providers has communications service providers (CSPs) considering ways to use virtualization and cloud technologies to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve service agility.
