Senior Electrical Engineer

REPORTS TO: Manager, Design Engineering

LOCATION: Eden Prairie, MN

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development and support of Artesyn products. Expected to work closely in a team environment with firmware and mechanical engineers on product development of extensive scope. Exercises judgment to select and develop methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to secure project success. Normally receives only general instructions on all work, and limited supervision by a manager.

Essential Functions

  • Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., analog and digital circuits, EMI filters, power circuits, etc.) including circuit/magnetic design, micro-code development, board layout and prototype testing
  • Perform project estimation by interfacing with internal teams to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Develop mathematical models, simulation tools and other predictive methods to reduce change on subsequent iterations of each design
  • Serve as development lead by assisting and collaborating with firmware and mechanical disciplines through all development stages
  • Assist in the development, testing, and debugging of prototype power supply units
  • Interact with Test Architect and Reliability Engineer to develop test strategies, devices, and systems
  • Interact directly with customers to maintain confidence and customer satisfaction
  • Interface with personnel from other segments such as sales, NPI, customer service, and manufacturing to determine solutions
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in either Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • 3 to 7+ years of related professional experience
  • Have experience in developing a range of embedded firmware in multiple products
  • Proficiency with Windows-based platforms and computer-based design and analysis tools
  • Familiarity with the architectures and electronic hardware encountered in power supply and micro-controller based systems
  • Advanced capability to troubleshoot and debug hardware and systems issues
  • Experience with Mathcad, Cadence and electronics simulation tools
  • Working knowledge of Database, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software
  • Must be able to travel occasionally domestically and internationally as required
  • Strong communication and team skills are required
